Max Simon is a sculptor and designer based out of Brooklyn, New York, focusing primarily in the creation of kinetic sculpture and mobiles. A 2017 graduate of RISD with a double major in furniture design and painting, he is inspired by the works of Alexander Calder and aims to continue the tradition of other great studio tinkerers. Max enjoys working directly with simple materials i.e cardboard, sheet, metal, wood and wire and aims to create simple yet sophisticated pieces that arouse a sense of childlike wonder. His design work aims to be an extension of his sculpture practice, utilizing the same hands-on processes in the hope to create pieces that are as playful as they are refined, visually lyrical as they are practical. He and his work have been featured in Architectural Digest, Design Milk, Le Monde and The New York Times. Max has works in many esteemed collections worldwide and has executed numerous large scale public works.
