Alexis Granwell is an artist whose work explores the potential of pulp to record touch and evoke intimacy, engaging the psychological and bodily qualities of material and environment. Her work has been exhibited internationally in Denmark, Berlin, and Lithuania, and nationally at The American University Museum, the Weatherspoon Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum, and Zürcher Gallery, among others. She will present her largest solo exhibition at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in 2027.
In 2024, she completed a monumental commission for Penn Medicine’s Clifton Center for Medical Breakthroughs, curated by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She received an Independence Foundation Fellowship, which supported her residency at Dieu Donné, and has also participated in residencies at I-Park, AS220, Ragdale, and Jentel. Her work has been reviewed in Hyperallergic, Sculpture Magazine, Whitehot Magazine, Studio International, and The Washington Post. Granwell co-founded Tiger Strikes Asteroid. She lives and works in Philadelphia, where she teaches at the University of Pennsylvania.
