A one-of-a-kind ceramic cup, made by hand in Echo Park using a slab construction and individually painted in Echo Park, California!
Peter Shire, (Los Angeles, CA) was as a founding member of the Memphis Group alongside Ettore Sottsass. Peter's art includes sculpture and furniture and has been featured in galleries and exhibitions around the world. His work is as colorful and whimsical as he is! Peter founded the pottery studio in 1972 to create ceramics that were more reasonably priced than his gallery work, and named it after the L.A. neighborhood where he was raised.
"Echo Park Pottery, is a simulacrum of an art pottery, started sometime after October 2nd 1972. There's a good chance it was when there were 10 or 20 mugs that had been done in a slab construction hand rolled style that I learned from Adrian Saxe. I didn't know what to do with glaze and I had a bunch of pots of liquid color and I thought it would be very funny to spatter them like Sam Francis paintings. The high and the low."
