Doug Hawkins and Will Reynolds are a two-person studio making sculpture in wood. Doug comes from fine art and digital design and works as a design technologist; Will trained in graphic design and architecture and practices as an architect. By day, both spend their creative energy on objects built to serve a purpose, and usually someone else's bottom line. The studio is a deliberate counterweight to that: a space to trade screens and pixels for the encounter of hand, wood, and tool, and to make things that are accountable to nothing but themselves. Their pieces straddle sculpture and craft, drawing on material knowledge and an eye for form. If their working lives are about function, this work is about presence and balance. Each object only stands when every piece is connected, beautiful things that exist for the sake of existing.
