Augusta Sparks Farnum is an artist living and working in Brooklin, Maine. She is degreed and well studied in a vast array of art practices including Photography (Bard College), Arts in Medicine (University of Florida), and Intermedia (University of Maine). Her work is vast and varied, just like her wit and wisdom. She also happens to be a neighbor, winter pick-up soccor teammate and occasional co-worker. Augusta is one of those humans who I met and we were pretty instantly at ease and trusted one another. She is also an "eccentric" just like me and we commiserate and laugh at both being considered too much at times. I am overjoyed such an ingenious artist (and academic, though she will hate me saying so) was willing to bring this unique and inspiring material (cellulose nanofiber) and creating to the show! In making work for the Rock Show, Augusta described the polka-dot effect on this piece as remaindering her of the impressions rocks leave behind in the sand as one collects a stone.
MATERIALS: Cellulose nano fiber and carrageenan from Irish moss
DIMENTIONS: 18" x 24"
